Converting .flv to .mov
Posted by Uriel Reyes on February 9, 2010 at 5:06 amHey guys n gals;
Going through a tough moment here. I lost a video file and cant seem to find it anywhere, so I used savevid.com to rip if off of you-tube. It saved it as an .flv file in HD, however, Final Cut Pro does not recognize this video format. I tried using numerous video converting programs, but they all add their logos once I convert my video. Help. anyone know a free way to convert this video? Maybe using Adobe Premier?
thanks a lot.

Yes as you’ve already discovered there are a few one one trick pony applications out there that handle this with mixed results.
I use the free plug-in Perian to get QuickTime to playback .FLVs files natively. Then it’s just a matter of exporting it straight out of QuickTime to ProRes 422 (HQ) or whatever codec you want to work with.
Give it a go and let us know how you make out.

Thanks a lot man. Perian worked like a charm. All i had to do was install, restart, and bam! Export to .mov; Thanks again.

February 10, 2010 at 12:55 pmHaven’t been asked, but if you need to export to Flash, don’t use Flash Encoder.
You better export H264 and change the extension to “.flv”.
The Flash proprietary codecs are no so good.

There are thousands of interesting tutorials.Check out this software. It will download it for free. You have to pay if you want it to convert the flash files to Quicktime. Best of luck.

Thanks for the link, I’ll have a look.
Toast used to claim that could record everything but I haven’t tried.
Best,

February 12, 2010 at 7:47 pmHappy to help. I don’t believe toast can record a Flash file to a Quicktime. Popcorn, another Roxio product can convert files to flash. On their site it says it can save a video from your favorite web site and burn it to a DVD. Here is the site on popcorn: https://www.roxio.com/enu/products/popcorn/standard/features.html
I’ve never used it so I’m not sure about it. Hope this is of some help. Best of luck.Check out my Motion Training DVD
