I’ve been compositing my H.264 files from my 7D in After Effects, then saving them as AVI loss-less files for editing in Premiere Pro. The problem I have with AVI files is that they are huge, about 25 gigs for a 3 minute file. I have about 45 clips I need to composite, each 3 minutes a piece. Everyone in the 7D/5D community seems to be converting to Apple ProRes 422 for editing, but I am not using Final Cut Pro, nor do I have any plans to purchase it.

Is there another format similar to Apple ProRes 422 that I can convert my files to after compositing in After Effects, without reducing quality, or am I stuck using the gargantuan AVI files?

I’m probably doing something wrong here, maybe a couple things, I’m a newb, so please help if you can.
