Converting EDL to 23.98
Hi,
I am working on an older Avid Film Composer (version 10.5.3). The footage I am using is an HDCam at 23.98. Apparently our Avid systems are old enough that they weren’t designed for a 23.98 frame rate. So what is happening is that when ingesting the footage, the deck (a Sony J-H3) uses a pulldown and converts the frame rate to 29.97, and then the Avid removes these extra fields creating 24 frame footage, but having a timecode that goes from :00 to :29 (omitting frame numbers 2,7,12,17,22,and 27 to create the 24 frame clips).
The problem I am seeing is that the EDLs created by this project also use this 29.97 timecode. So when onlining, will this 29.97 EDL cause problems even though there are really only 24fps in the project and the footage. Also is there some software or other way to get the Avids to output a 23.98 EDL in case that would make onlining easier?
Thanks,
Adam
