I received a project that I did exported out of AVID using the DNxHD codec. The project was shot on HDV. I figured out how to get it to play in Quicktime finally. However, I need to compress the project into other formats, more specifically using H.264. However, when I tried doing that out of Quicktime, the image quality was horrible, and the audio seemed compressed really low. I was wondering if there were any specific settings that needed to be used. In the settings when exporting out of Quicktime, I made sure to preserve the aspect ratio and used the NTSC 720×480 setting, and checked the 24fps. I don’t know if that’s even giving the bad quality. If this isn’t the best way to go, is there any other way to compress the AVID file into another more widely accepted format such as mpeg? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using the settings within MoviePlayer (QuickTime Pro) to do the encoding, or are you using a third party tool like Soresnson Squeeze?
