  converting channels to mask

  In Richard Harrington’s book ” Photoshop for Non-Linear editors”, on page 61, he suggests making a levels adjustment to clean up the matte… but I’M STUCK. I created a new alpha channel in the Channels palette using “Calculations”, but now I can’t seem to access the “levels adjustment” icon. Hmmm…. should I try to bring the new alpha channel out of the Channels palette and into the Layer’s palette?

  Does this make sense to anyone… Richard are you there?
