My girlfriend bought a Canon Vixia HFM500 HD camcorder that records in only AVCHD or MP4. Premiere Pro doesn’t support the AVCHD format. MP4 hasn’t enough video quality for our use.

Is there anything on the market that will convert her AVCHD movies to something that Premiere Pro can use without losing/degrading the HD video?

Maybe its time to upgrade to PrP 6. You will be amazed at what it can do (make sure your computer stuff is supported 😀 )

Premiere Pro 2.0 goes back pretty far….but….

there are free conversion utilities out there, but the only HD codec it natively supports is HDV. If you find a conversion utility, then try to convert it to that.

DVDhelp.org or similar may be a place to start looking.
