i have an old after effects file from version 5.0, as i that software is long gone and i have upgraded to 7.0 pro i can’t open the 5.0 project within 7.0.

i have production studio premium if that helps to mention as it might have something that can do it within the bundle.

any help would be well appreciated.

You shouldn’t have any problems opening up a legacy AEP with a newer version of AE.

You may want to put up your AEP at yousendit.com and hope that someone tries to open it up for you in 7.0 and then email it to you.

    Cheers

just tried what you recommended without success unfortunately.

in the folder that i am trying to open in the AFX project and sound in AIFF format.

i double clicked on the AFX project (and tried the other way listed above) and a box comes up saying

“After Effects: this project must be converted from version 5.0 (windows) and will open as an Untitled project. The original file will be unchanged.”

then i click ok, new box.

“after effects warning: 1 file missing since you last saved this project.”

    click ok again

the project comes up in the project side bar with the .aiff file missing, i got back into the folder to add it into the composition again and

“after effects error: the file format module could not parse the file

    (45::35)”

and then back to square one again =(

    any thoughts now?

it sounds like there may be a problem with the aiff (or with ae and your aiff). is the rest of the project ok?

can you open the aiff in another piece of software?

you might then convert it either to another aiff or a wav.

the problem is sorted now, yea i opened it up in audition and change it to a WAV file then replaced it in the comp and everything works all fine now.

just got to sort some of the issues out like dimensions still for some reason.

thanks for all the input its much appreciated!

Hi Dave, I’m having this issue and your solution (“There are a couple of things you can try:”) got truncated. Could you please repost your answer?

    Thanks a lot.
