Well, we were able to achieve the broadcast specs for DGFaststream using After Effects CS3.

However, we have some footage shot at 960×720 DVCPRO HD at 23.98 that we need to convert to 720×512 at 29.97.

Is there a process in After Effects to do this or is it even possible in AE?

I tried creating a new comp, importing, scaling and enabling frame blending and the movement is ok but it appears a little stretched, which I would imagine. However, I’m just wondering if there is something I’m unaware of as to the best method to use to make the conversion.

    Thanks

i don’t believe that you will want you comp size to be 720×512… i think you will want it to be 720×486 (or 480?). 512 makes me start thinking 525 scanlines, which is the actual number of scanlines in an ntsc signal… but only 486 of those are visible, or comprise the image portion of the signal.

so i think the comp would just be the visible portion of the signal, 486 lines. you might want to get clarification of this from dgf.

also, to get 23.976 progressive up to 29.97 interlaced, you should probably add a pulldown rather than frame blending… it’s the industry standard to get film up to broadcast rates.
