    Converting 640×480 H.264 in FCP 7

    Hi there!

    I made a series of blunders filming on my Canon T3i, and I’m so deep in the project that I’m really hoping to salvage the footage and create the film! I’m running into issues on FCP 7 because the footage is 640×480 & compressed at h.264. I understand that FCP 7 works beset with ProRes 422. I’ve used my PavTube converter to try & convert the footage, but it gets all screwed up in the conversion. My settings in PavTube are:

    Codec: Apple ProRes 422
    Size: 640×480
    Bitrate: Medium Quality
    FPS: 23.976

    The problems arise once I add filters to the footage. They look choppy and awful.

    So, my biggest question is, how do I convert the footage from h.264 / 640×480 into a usable format for FCP 7? Thank you!

    Don’t use that software..it’s spotty. And you don’t need to, Compressor does this.

    First off, ProRes NTSC is 720×480…the other dimensions are Quicktime web dimensions, 720 is proper TV dimensions. So you need to convert to ProRes 422, 720×480. MPEG STREAMCLIP does this, and it’s free.
