    Hi , I have 2 questions. My camera person insist that she tried shooting in a nightclub using PAL at shutter speed 60fps and still had problems with lights. We need to test again to see if we can shoot PAL in the USA but I would appreciate some some authority on wether it is possible.

    2nd question. We now have some footage which is shot on a canon 5d at NTSC 29.97 which we need to get on a PAL 25 timeline.

    I emailed Greame Nattress and he said their product does not covert progressive.
    Any suggestions on best way to approach this ?

    Compressor. And change all the FRAME CONTROLS to BEST. This will take a WHILE.

    You will get some horrendous flicker when trying to shoot 25 fps on a 5D in the US. Shoot at 29.97 and then convert.

    As for your second question, you can also use the “conform” function in Cinema Tools to convert your 30p footage to 25p.

    The resulting footage will have a slight slo-mo effect to it; this may be a benefit or a deal breaker depending on the footage especially if you shot sync-sound.

    Sound is on a Zoom H4n , So thinking load Video and Audio on a 29.97 timeline . Pluraleyes (sync audio) and then export or convert. Time not a problem. For some reason I had the impression that if we shot with a shutter speed that was a multiple of the power supply being 60 Hz. that we could still shoot in a fluro environment in PAL. Obviously we need to go to a fluro lit environment at night time to test.

    To avoid ficker, it’s not the shutter speed that needs to be a multiple, it’s the frame rate. So PAL at 25 fps is good with florescent lights at 50 Hz. But with florescent lights at 60 Hz you need to shoot at 29.97 or 59.94.
