First big project in my new job.

We have a European client who wants us to shoot and edit some interviews here in the U.S. and we are to deliver the final product as 1080/50i. My company has hired a videographer who has a Panasonic HVX200, so he can shoot 1080/24p or 1080/60i, but not 1080/50i.

I have been advised that through a combination of FCP and Cinema Tools, I can convert 24p to 25p. But all I see is an option that says “Conform 25 to 24” when what I want is actually the other way round.

    What am I missing?

(By the way, I see an Advanced Format Conversion setting in Compressor for 1080i50, but I’m told it’s exceedingly slow.)

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    TIA,

    Thanks, Dave.

We’re exploring that option as well. The client actually wants HDV, so we’ll probably rent a Sony Z1U. But my boss wants me to explore options that involve the expenditure of my time, rather than any additional funds.

    I appreciate your input.

In CT you have to open the final show (as QT movie) and conform it to 25. This would speed up the program and sound has to be done in STP to avoid the change of pitch
And why the hell do you want to go to HDV?

I second the way that Andreas suggests.
Conform the footage as p25 in CinemaTools.
Then just use it as i50. No rendering, no recompression. You end up with the original picture playing a 4% faster.
The Compressor way will make you re-build the whole picture. Frame by frame, pixel by pixel.
    Very stressing process for HDV.
I agree as well that ou have better solutions.
    Rent an EX-1.

[Rafael Amador] “Conform the footage as p25 in CinemaTools. “

I agree that CinemaTools conform is a great option.

In case you shoot in 25/50 take care of the shutter settings in artifical light conditions so that the 25/50
doesn’t conflict with the 60 Hz “refresh” rate of neons etc.
