converting 1080/1440 .mov to quality small size 16 x 9 file
I’m attempting to transcode a 700MB 1080 x 1440 mov file to a smaller file that maintains the 16 x 9 aspect and reasonable quality in a file under 100MB – so far I’m getting crappy results via FCP 7 export using Quicktime Conversion – check on maintain 16 x 9 aspect doesnt maintain 16 x 9.. any suggestions for a quality conversion I can send over Yousendit? Compressor or MPEG streamclip?
Any suggestions are much welcome.Peter Hall

Exporting using QuickTime Conversion is your problem.
Export a QT Movie select self contained if you want a master copy of your project.
Drop that file into compressor and choose an h.264 setting for your liking.
a example would be h.264 800kbs. If you want a higher bit rate, change your data rate.Steve Eisen

Thank you Steve, I shall try Compressor. Any clues to the algorythms of kbs in relation to MB size of original file? About to go fishing in Compressor. Cheers.

Compressor will give you an estimated size. The higher the data rate, the higher the quality and larger the file size. I would not go over 5,000 kb

Steve, please forgive my ignorance, but I am not seeing options for kb speed in Compressor, only different codecs. The first H264 1K version I tried gave me a 25k file that was 4/3 in aspect. I’m now trying a new H264 setting that promises to respect my original quicktime .mov settings, At this point I’m keen to get the 16 x 9 replication in a low rez file.Thanks for your patience.
