  • Converted video files have gaps with new audio sync

    Hey All,

I’ve been looking all over the internet to get this question answered but could not find it anywhere.

Basically I converted some footage from the mts files to FCP native MOV files. I wanted to swap out the audio because the camera audio is blown out. So I have gone ahead and synced the new audio to the video. But there is one problem. Because of the video breaks (2GB breaks) there are small gaps of 1-2 seconds between the files? I have created a screenshot of what I am saying:

As you can see, there is a slight gap because of the size limit of the HD files, so for 2-3 seconds the screen is black. How can I get around this? If at all? Thanks a lot for your help.

Because I was recording onto a Sony hard drive based camcorder. So when the recording hit 2 GB, which was about 13-15 minutes it would start another file. So there are a few separate mts files for a 2 hour performance. I guess the reason being for fat32 drives?

What specific camera? Because I know many file based cameras that shoot to Fat32 drives and card formats that break up the files into multiple parts on long takes, and they don’t have gaps of any kind.

Sony HDR-SR10. One of the earlier models. I don’t have the camera anymore just the data from the hard drive. I use the mts files in Vegas and there is no problem. I thought maybe it was the conversion. But I used toast and adobe encoder to create mov files and the same result.

Odd. Vegas sees all the video without a gap, but FCP doesn’t? There’s a gap?

HOw did you convert the footage? That’s where I’d be pointing my finger.
