Sarah, I have the demo working. But nothing comes close to what I can do with my somewhat lengthy method to get a clean line drawing that includes some of the architectural details. Wish it did! If you like, I can email you the original photo, and my “line drawing” version.

Thanks for the suggestion. The lens corrector filter looks like it might be very useful to correct wide-angle shots that bow out in the middle.

Here’s another helpful tutorial of how to convert an image/photo to line drawing. Thanks.

This seems like an old post now but I was trying to convert a photo to line drawing and thought I would share my 2 cents, might be useful to someone in 2013!

Doing all manually in photoshop took to long for me as I had 20+ images I needed to do. After some searching I found this site convert a photo to line drawing .com. Uploaded my images and it gave me a zip file with them all converted in, I had to touch up a couple as they had some trees in the background that came out a little strange but on the whole was simple.

In photoshop I did it a bit different from Rick and found it worked better to replace everything up to guassian blur with this:
    Duplicate layer
Set top layer color mode to be colour dodge
    Do gaussian
    Then reduce saturation to 0
    Then clean up as described.

Took a long time doing manual clean ups and clicking on all the settings, does anyone know how you can automate this so it can just be a single action?

    Cheers,

    James

after years of playing round with photoshop filters, then using the akvis sketch plugin or alien skin snap art, i found i get the best results with an app called SketchMee
its cheap & fast and it makes it possible to increase the size of an image from web sized to soemthign printable.
    check it out

Update 7/14: I’ve found Topaz Simplify does a pretty good job. Add a white layer below the treated one and erase any remaining visual noise.
