If you’re running Windows 7, you can edit MTS natively in CS3, but you need the CS3 Mainconcept plugin for Premiere to import the files. If they still have it available for download, it would be here:

There’s also a very convoluted way of doing this through AVISynth, where Premiere will remotely access the footage through an external decoder. It works, but requires a lot of steps to get it working properly. Instructions for this are here:

I have Premiere Pro CS3, Win7 and using MTS-files (AVCHD).

I have installed the latest Mediaconcept plugin (DEMO v 4.1.1), but when importing the file, the sound/audio is gone after a couple of minutes.

I don’t know if this is due to that I’m using a demo version, but I haven’t heard of this limitation.

Anyone know any advice?
Or maybe a recommended MTS to Premiere-recognizable format tool?

Hey Chris: This was a very helpful post you made. I downloaded this convert program and it worked perfectly except for one problem. If I had an .mts file where the video clip was more than 30 seconds long, it would drop the audio after the inital 30 seconds. It would come back with each new file but again drop off if the clip was more than 30 seconds. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

When I used this convert program it would drop the audio of those files where the video was longer than 30 seconds. It would have 30 seconds of audio and then drop all audio after that until the next clip or file started.
