    HI,

I’d like to convert .MKV files to pro res, I’ve tried Perian with quicktime and mpeg streamclip and while
these will open the file it takes forever (probably 10 plus hours) to export as pro res.

Is there a better way, and if so what is the workflow?

    Thanks

Well, knowing what MKV files are…I really shouldn’t be helping but…

There’s an app you can buy called SMART CONVERTER…use that to “re-wrap” the file to H.264. And then convert that H.264 to ProRes with Compressor or MPEG STREAMCLIP.

I use it to grab episodes of shows I work on for my reel. I get DVDs from work, but those are SD, and I like HD, so I get the shows, and then convert them to H.264.

Thanks Shane, your last sentence is exactly why I’m doing this.
