What’s the best way to convert HD Quicktimes (XDCam EX) to 4:3 letterboxed AVIs?

Compressor wil do this. You can even make a preset or a droplet that will help to automate the process.

What settings should I use? I cannot get it to letterbox it. It either comes out 16:9 or as stretched 4:3. And there’s a lot of aliasing.

You’ll need to look this up in the online Compressor manual in the Help menu. Sorry, but I’m not going to take a half hour to type a tutorial for you. You need to look into the geometry tab in Compressor and set up the letterboxing there.
