[walter biscardi] “Now if Avid, Apple, Panasonic and everyone else wants to talk to the networks and convince them that NTSC and PAL no longer exist, by all means I’m all for it. But until then, we’re stuck with the mess of “he said, she said” and we all figure it out for ourselves.”

Perfectly said. And I agree with you. I probably should have avoided the subject with the original poster, but since he gave so little info in the original question I was not totally sure what he wanted to accomplish…though I was able to make an educated guess.

Technically speaking…PAL and NTSC were only supposed to refer to the color encoding processes…though in general usage, they have come to be descriptions of frame rate and frame size. Note that SECAM is also a color encoding system, but no NLE has presets for SECAM projects. Note also, that FCP and Avid do not refer to PAL and NTSC HD in their software, and AJA does not refer to PAL and NTSC HD in their Easy Setups. Really its the networks, in their effort to simply things, that are causing all the confusion.
