Convert Advice Needed For Job Using Compressor 3.5
Hi,
I am running Compressor Version 3.5.3 on my Mac Mini (2.4GHZ, Core 2 Duo, 4GB Ram) using Max OSX 10.6.8 and I am trying to properly convert (for editing purposes using Final Cut Pro 7) a .mov file with the following parameters:Photo-JPEG (HD 1-1-1)
1920 X 1080
Pixel Aspect: Square
Native Field Dominance: Progressive
Frame Rate: 29.97to
Apple Pro Res 422 w/audio pass through
Encoded Bounds: 1440 X 1080
Display Bounds: 1920 X 1080
Frame Rate: 23.976I am pretty familiar with compressor (I use it for Pulldown removal) but I don’t wanna mess up with any simple error on my part. What would you recommend the best settings be for a HQ conversion (used for broadcast purposes)? Thanks much in advance.

Since your source file doesn’t have any pulldown, doing a pulldown removal wouldn’t be a good idea. I would use Compressor and engage Frame Controls to set retiming to better. Best retiming will take forever and likely not give you any real gains in quality. Make sure Compressor knows your source file is progressive, and set it to encode to ProRes at 23.976 fps, better retiming, 100% of source. Be prepared for it to take a while, but I’ve had success with this method.
