  • Convert 4:3 NTSC (offline) to 16:9 anamorphic, for output to DVD

    Good Afternoon,

    After reading previous posts and trying various experiments, I am still struggling with this and was hoping someone could help.

    I am trying to burn a DVD playable on widescreen televisions/computers of footage originally shot in 4:3. This is a preview of a rough cut and the material is at offline resolution.

    1. I am starting with a preset sequence offline DV NTSC 4:3
    2. I nest this into a preset sequence offline DV NTSC Anamorphic
    3. I scale the sequence by 133.3333%
    4. I export current settings to Quicktime
    5. It comes out 4:3 squeezed.

    I tried this again, this time instead of converting to an anamorphic sequence preset, I applied the video filter “widescreen” to the nested sequence. Although now, it is not clear to me what my export to quicktime settings should be.

    Thanks for your help!

    Very good to know. Thank you, Dave!

    Other tips I should know about compression settings in DVD studio for a QT movie that is offline resolution?

    By offline, I mean the following preset:

    * Compression(codec): Photo JPEG
    * Frame Size: 320×240
    * Pixel Ratio: Square
    * Quality: 35%
    * Frame Rate(NTSC): 29.97fps

    More on this can be found here: https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/offline_rt.html

    I have since tried to import the quicktime to DVDSP, setting DVDSP to 16:9, and unfortunatley, I am getting the same results in the simulation window (a squashed image). Any ideas? Very frustrating..!

    Thanks,
    Annie
