convert 29.97 fps to 23.98 in Final Cut Pro
Posted by Mkjjang on July 27, 2007 at 8:11 pmHello,
I’ve worked on a feature documentary and all footages were shot in 29.98 fps. So, I edited them in 29.98 fps with FCP, and now, I would like to convert whole project to 23.98 fps.
Does anyone know how to convert to 23.98 fps?
Thanks in advance.Graeme Nattress replied 18 years, 9 months ago 6 Members · 5 Replies -

July 28, 2007 at 2:02 amWe’re in the middle of doing exactly this.
There’s two ways. Less expensive (called a cross convert) and very expensive which is basically a DI process.
Terranex, Alchemist, there are others. These are all basically “set it and forget it” processes that may yield different results depending on your original material. This process is not simple, standard, or cheap. Be prepared to do a test of your material, and screen it projected if possible.
Good luck.

July 28, 2007 at 8:02 amNobody has mentioned the software-based plugins for After Effects and FCP that do a decent job of taking NTSC footage at 60i to 24p. Magic Bullet from Red Giant works well, and I have heard good things about Nattress filters.
Thanks,

July 28, 2007 at 3:27 pmYes, if you want to convert a 29.97fps movie (interlaced at 60i) to 24p (23.98fps) then my Standards Conversion plugin and it’s Film Converter will do the job for you with great quality, all inside FCP. This solution is great for making a 24p DVD, or web movie from 60i material, or for integrating 60i footage into a 23.98fps project. I don’t know why the OP wants to do the conversion, but if it’s any of those reasons I’ve mentioned, then that’s the answer.
if you just want a 24p look in a normal 60i project, then my Film Effects is the easiest solution. The look is the same as converting to 24p, but you get the convenience of the 29.97fps timeline and direct output to tape formats that don’t support 24p.
