convert 1080p to 720p
Hi,
There’s a lot of talk about how to up-convert 720p to 1080p, or SD to 720p.
But my question here is about going from 1080p to 720p. Should I use compressor to do the job or can I let FCP7 deal with it (resizing to 66.67%). I ask in terms of the quality. From just one or two trials, not sure FCP is the best option.
[PS, doing the down-convert to have more freedom in terms of composition; and anyway it goes to youtube…]Thanks a lot

FCP can do it fine. Downscaling is easy, and quality is retained.

This confuses me…how does it allow more freedom? The dimensions are exactly the same, just smaller. Still 16:9. And if you are talking about having a larger source to work with to reposition the shot, then you don’t want to convert it to 720p in Compressor…because then it’s 720p and if you blow up to reposition, you are losing quality. Best to keep it 1080 in a 720 sequence.

Thanks so much for replying.
And yes, I meant that if I stay with 1080p and use it in 720p sequence, then I have more freedom (it means that I do not downconvert the 1080p because there is no need) 🙂
