You use the settings they have supplied you, start with an MPEG-2 NTSC preset and adjust as they have told you to:

width : 720
height: 480
crop to center: – 1.333:1
Padding: None
frame rate: 30 FPS
Aspect Ratio: 4:3
field dominance: automatic
average daTA RATE: 5 (MBPS)
MAXIMUM DATA RATE: 7.5 (MBPS)

It’s not going to look great as you are ‘standards converting’ from PAL to NTSC. Ideally you’d get your footage professionally standards converted first.

when I use Squeeze — the format comes as mkv or something

I’m fairly sure that Squeeze doesn’t support the mkv wrapper. Are you sure that’s it’s not m2v?

That is MPEG-2. ‘m2v’ stands for “MPEG-2 Video”.

Your audio will be encoded as a separate file ready to be taken into your DVD authoring application.

ok two questions

1. I need to send the mpeg 2 to a client so they can view it on their computer and they only require mpeg 2 — i don’t want to send it to them seperately with the audio.

2. on squeeze there are numerous options … I.E. lg, dvdlg etc… and when you are in the settings window — do I set it on program or elementary and which option do I choose: lg, dvdlg etc..,

You need to output a program stream on order for the audio and video to be part of the same file.

It depends on the use of the output, but it will never be .mpeg but rather .mpg.

MPEG-2 can have the following extensions depending on output type.

.mpg
.m2v
.ts
.m2t
.mxf

etc..
