Conver to avi
Hi.
I imported and edited my mts-files in Sony Vegas 9.0.
Now i want to rend the video into an AVI-file. But the filesize to big. (1,5-2,0 GB for 6 min. film).
I found some settings that rend the film to Mp4, and it was only 200 mb, without loosing any quality.
Can you find settings like that for AVI, or what should i do? -

What is your target device? Web? DVD? Blu-ray? What is wrong with rendering to MP4? If you must have an AVI file you could use the DivX codec to get smaller high quality files. But the first question needs to be answered because how you will use these files will determine the best way to render them.

Where do you want to view the video from, DVD, hard drive (computer/TV), portable media player, YouTube?
AVI is just the container for the video file, you can choose most any codec you want with any resolution and compression level and have it named “.avi” It just needs to be compatible with your playback device.

huffYUV
M-JPG
to name a few.MP4 at 200mb for 6 minutes of footage equals 4gb for a 2 hour movie. Sounds like a good choice or you can use DivX or Xvid.

The movie is for a DVD.
I dont have a lot of knowledge about this, but i want to edit about 20 small movies (3-6 min), and then burn them to a dvd.
When i rended to Mp4, it looked like i lost some quality. -

DVD’s use MPEG2. Render them using one of the MPEG2 DVD Architect templates. If you render them to MP4 and they don’t look that good now, they will look even worse when they are re-rendered to MPEG2 so you might was well use MPEG2 to begin with.

Jay, I’m curious as to why you think Vegas doesn’t give you “complete control on the output”?
No matter what output format I choose, I can change pretty much all it’s parameters by using the Custom option.
In this particular case, Johan wants to make a DVD and John Rofrano told him how to do it.
If you’re referring to some of the esoteric formats folks want to render to , then yes, Vegas isn’t the right tool for the job but it’s never pretended to be the “swiss army knife” of NLEs either.
