I am wanting to find a way of controlling the opacity of an object that is in “comp A” from “comp B”

Comp B is my main timeline. It consists of various other compositions including comp A.

Comp A has an opacity controller but this obviously affects the whole of A (not just the object i’m wanting to control)

Hope you followed that. Is this possible? Many thanks

Say you have a null in “comp B” with a slider you want to use to control the opacity of a layer in “comp A”. You ccomp(“comp B”).layer(“Null 1”).effect(“Slider Control”)(“Slider”)

WOOOSH! the sound it makes as it goes flying over my head 🙂

thanks alot but i’m not that far advanced in AE to figure this out myself. I think i understand what’s happening. You can sort of latch this slider control onto a chosen attribute.

Where does this code you gave ne go?

    many thanks

It would go in the Opacity property of the layer you want to control. You’d just Alt-click the stopwatch and paste it in.
