  • Controlling the explosive force of Fracture Object and Rigid Bodies

I’m using Fracture Object with Rigid Body to break apart a text I made into pieces with a plugin called Destruction. I have a small cube that’s acting as my trigger for collision. The goal of the animation is that that little cube will tap the Text and it will crumble apart and the pieces fall and hit other letters which break and also fall apart like a domino effect.

My problem is I have a massive explosion and not a crumbling fx. I can’t control the force of the text breaking down. What I have is more of an outward explosion.

    My cube settings are:

    Fracture Object mode Explode segments
    Rigid Body Tab:
    Enabled: On
    Dynamic: On
    Trigger: Immediately
    Custom Initial Velocity: On
    Initial Linear Velocity -80m,0,0
    Initial Angular Velocity 0,0,0
    Object Coordinates: on

    Collision
    Individual Elements:All
    Shape: Automatic
    Bounce: 0
    Friction: 1
    Collision Noise: 0.5

    Mass
    Use: World Density
    Rotational Mass 1%

    Force
    Follow Animation: Off
    Strength:100
    Linear Damping: 0
    Angular Damping: 0

My Text settings. (The text is a ton of pieces made with the Destruction plugin)

    Fracture Object mode Explode segments
    Rigid Body Tab:
    Enabled: On
    Dynamic: On
    Trigger: On Collision

    Collision
    Individual Elements:All
    Shape: Automatic
    Bounce: 0
    Friction: 1
    Collision Noise: 0.5

    Mass
    Use: World Density
    Rotational Mass 100%

    Force
    Follow Animation: Off
    Strength:100
    Linear Damping: 4
    Angular Damping: 0

The Floor, Walls: Rigid Body Tag settings:

    Dynamic: On
    Collision
    Inherit Tag: Off
    Shape: Automatic
    Use: Off
    Bounce: 0
    Friction: 1
    Collision Noise: 0.5

If the text explodes immediately it’s probably because the pieces are intersecting at the beginning. That would be down to the way you created the pieces.

Well I added a .001 spacing between slices with the Destruction plugin. I dont think that’s the problem. It has to be something with my settings. I noticed that the motion of the text when it breaks is very springy. One of the last letter to break gets hit from the top from a piece falling down on it and the letter explodes upward instead of crumbling down. Do i need gravity or something?
