  • Controlling solid color with a fill effect

    Hey Guys and Gals.
I’m working on building a template that that I can use to control color with.
They way that it is currently setup, It would be helpful if I could link the color of the solid that the expression is on to the fill effect.
The goal I am trying to achieve is so that when looking in the timeline comp window, I can quickly tell what color is associated with which layer.
So the effect I want this to have is it should alter the icon that is to the left of the layer/source name- i’ve attached a picture to clarify.

anyone got any ideas on if this is possible/how to accomplish?

    thanks

I don’t think there’s any way to do that with expressions. You could probably do it with a script (it wouldn’t be live though), but it might get a little tricky if any of your layers shared the same source solid.

    Thanks Dan.
Dont suppose I could link it to the layer’s label color?
I dont exceed 16 colors but I’m not sure if i can actually control what those label colors are.

You can’t control them with expressions. You can with scripting, but you’re limited to specifying the number (1-16) of one of the pre-defined label colors. To actually control the colors themselves (I’m speculating here–haven’t tried it) you might be able to manipulate those colors in preferences. It might be more trouble than it’s worth though…
