Controling Sony M35U
I would like to capture HDV footage into Final Cut using the SDI output on Sony’s HVR-M35U. I have an AJA card and breakout box, but because the Sony deck has no RS 422 control, I have to set my device settings in FCP to non controllable device. Although this allows me to get the SDI signal, I cannot get the tape’s TC. Does anyone know a way around this or am I better off just using the HVR 1500A?

Judy- First close out of FCP. In the deck menu turn the iLink downconvert to ON. Keep your SDI connection. Launch FCP. Set your SDI settings in Audio/Video settings. Now open Log and Capture. Set to firewire device control from the machine control tab inside ‘Log & Capture.’ It’s a workaround that works for us.
