AFAIK only the Tangent control surfaces can be programmed to actually affect the color pucks in FCPX- for something like the Avid surface it’ll likely do transport only. It’s basically a human interface device keyboard substitute. If there’s a way to reprogram the device to send the right key commands you might get somewhere. If not- not so much.

And unfortunately FCPX doesn’t support midi so my Mackie Pro Control and extended faders won’t work like they did in FCP7. Apparently no work around either.

For the Mackie faders to work, FCP X would also require some sort of track structure.

Well, it “kinda” does. (have “tracks” I’m places)
Specifically in the Angle Editor.
Be fascinating if they took the model – or even expanded the current implementation to allow users to manipulate audio the way they do multicam now.

Unfortunately that’s pretty pointless when you’re talking about a control surface with 8+ hardware faders. Possibly if Apple adopted the oft-suggested Roles=Bus strategy, then these could – in theory – be mapped to hardware faders.
