Control for a Sony J3 deck
I am using Media Composer 3.1.2 connected to a Mojo SDI and a Sony J3 digibeta deck. I/O works as does all the deck controls. The auto configure also recognises the deck correctly. The deck will also do a correct ‘cue to’ when manually selecting.
The problem is that it will not do an ‘in to out’ capture when entering correct timecodes. It momentarily plays the deck then stops it and displays the error “SBV_UNKNOWN_COMMAND, cmd1:68, cmd2:20”. This I assume is a command sent to the deck and the deck rejects it. I can capture manually just fine so its not a signal thing, just deck control.
When I connect the RS422 and the Mojo SDI to a A500 digibeta deck it works fine as an ‘in to out’ capture. So is there something wrong with Avid’s deck profile for the Sony J3? And maybe a workaround?

I’ve got a J3 P in 3.5.4 it works fine send me a email and I’ll forward you the .txt file that you drop into MC\suporting files\Machine template. Maybe that is it…Paulpharrington@invisionmedia.com.au

Thanks for the file Paul but it was the same as the one I already had in the folder but I installed it anyhow and didn’t fix the problem.
I am amazed there is not more comment about the Sony J3 deck as its sole purpose was for injesting into NLE.
I always use this deck with my FCP and CS4 systems without a hitch. I guess it will have to be the A500 deck exclusively for Avid injests until I find a solution….Baz
