Control D Not working

It works OK on 10.4.6. You have to select all clips in the timeline via CTRL+A, then do CTRL+D. If they are not all selected it won’t work.

I’m on 10.4.5 and they have always worked fine. But I’m not looking to select all clips. I just want to select ONE clip to see the length of that individual clip CTRL+D has ALWAYS worked for me since the beginning of FCPX. Suddenly it’s not working.

Sorry, I mis-read that. But on 10.4.6 CTRL+D to display/change clip length still works for me.

However I usually don’t use CTRL+D to get clip length, since the length of any selected clip is automatically shown in yellow text below the viewer and to the right of the project name. You can jump the selected clip forward/backward with CMD+right arrow or left arrow.

The displayed length units (HH:MM:SS:FF or frames or fractional seconds) is determined by FCPX>Preferences>Time Display.

Thanks for your help. Yep I see that. But that’s not how I prefer to work. CTRL+D is there for a reason, I’ve always used it.

A few years ago I had a problem with one of the hotkeys in Photoshop suddenly not working. The command editor or whatever Adobe calls it showed the correct keystrokes for the hotkey, but it didn’t work. Just for grins I tried changing the shortcut keys to something else and then changed it back again to the proper keystroke. IT WORKED-don’t ask me why. I suppose that the prefs file got corrupted or something like that.
It’s just a shot in the dark, but you might want to give it a try. It can’t hurt. If that doesn’t work, you might try trashing your FCPX prefs.

Hi Greg,

I’ve just discovered a related problem in version 10.4.8 regarding use of CTRL-D. I’ve always used this to change the duration of multiple stills in a timeline. It still changes the clip duration but instead of condensing the timeline it puts a gap in the timeline equivalent to the time I’ve asked it to trim from the clip/still.

Did you manage to find a solution to this?

Update: on restarting FCPX Ctrl-D worked as expected and condensed the timeline. I’ll post again here if I experience this issue again

Yes. I deleted preferences. Everything worked
