I’ve got a simple, cartoony animation that is black and white. It starts on a flat white background, then moves to a black background, thru a short gradient.

Trouble is, the character is simply black lines, so once ‘he’ gets to the black backdrop (space) he’s hard to see. When he’s fully in space, I can just add a small white halo around him, but I’d like the outline to slowly fade it, automagically, in case I have to shift timing, and because down the road I can see that this will be a continuing need for the style of this animation. IOW, I’m going to have to do this repeatedly, it’s not a one-off.

Now that I’ve typed out the problem, I suspect some sort of blending mode is the way to go, but I’d still appreciate suggestions. THANKS.

    [Eric Chard] “blending mode”

    Is my suggestion.

    And there is always rotoscoping!
