i’m having some problems using line art for an animation in AE. i created a composition using art from illustrator and checked off the continuously rasterize/collapse button in the timeline. this doesn’t seem to smooth things out when i use the comp nested on a 3D layer in a new comp. when the animation goes over what appears to be 100% it no longer renders out smooth. any thoughts?

If I understand you correctly, you need to switch on Continuously Rasterize for the Illustrator layer in the precomp AND the 3D precomp in the Main comp, not just the precomp.

i tried that, but when i click the continuous switch in the 3D comp it simply seems to change the position of my animation (i i think it ignores the 3D position) and it still doesn’t smooth the artwork.

    Try this
In the pre-comp with your illustrator turn on continuous rasterization and the 3d switch.
Then in your main timeline turn on continuous rasterization for the pre-comp but don’t turn on the 3d layer switch.

good luck, let me know if this is the problem you are having.

ok…i still don’t know what i’m doing wrong, but it doesn’t appear that i can turn on both the continuously rasterize switch and the 3D layer switch and still be able to move the objets in space. as soon as i turn on the continuously reasterize switch, AE seems to “lock down” my artwork so that when i move the position it only moves the bounding box and not the actual rendered artwork. this phenomenon is true wether i am viewing the canvas from the front, top, active camera, camera one, or really any of the views.

    still confused,
    rob
