so my project had 6 hours left to complete durign its rendering the png image sequence ready for after effects.

but woke up and to find the system rebooted due to a forced update installation which i didnt allow (thanks MS once again for not allowing your consumer to diece what to have and not to have on their system) anyways.

so i thought ok, ill delete the first few files since it basically said it couldnt continue, so deleted the last few aswll thinking maybe those were corrupt due to the restart. nothing.

so how do i continue the exporting without restarting the whole thing?

You should have Microsoft updates totally turned off. Then once a month, after a complete backup, allow the months worth of updates to take place. I never have this problem and it’s completely avoidable. Just turn auto updates off.

Make a timeline selection starting at the frame after the last frame rendered that continues for the remainder of the project and use the render options to Render loop region only. This will render just the region you selected.

I always keep windows updates Permanently turned off….
And update only Service packs when they are available.
I really detests those fixes and hot fixes and bits and pieces
of patches that downloads every damn second of the weak.

They only come on every other Tuesday except for emergency updates:

I am not as paranoid as others about MS updates and let them download automatically, but I only run the updates when I can afford the time to repair the PC if something goes horribly wrong. But, that’s never happened.

??? You have ALWAYS had the option to control updates to the O/S. The defaults are there for the lowest-common-denominator of user who would be totally lost in the Control Panel.

They did, and caught PR Hell for it, but their terms of service does allow it. Remember, Microsoft owns the product, you are just licensing its use.

The flack you are referring to is when they implemented the “Windows Genuine Advantage program” (WGA) in mid 2010. There was enough illegal copies of Windows in the wild that they felt they had to do something. So, WGA was applied to all users with auto updates turned on. As with other updates, the end user still had the control of applying the updates. The only difference here is that the update was sent out of cycle (not on a Patch Tuesday), and all subsequent updates require that WGA is applied.

It happened to me. Microsoft updated the .Net Framework and caused a development tool I was using to stop working. This was one day before I was to fly out to NAB to demonstrate the software I was developing. Luckily, one of other PC’s I owned hadn’t been updated yet so I disconnected it from the Internet, installed all of my development tools, and worked through the night to recover the time lost. Needless to say auto update has been turned off on every PC I’ve ever owned since then. It is imperative to maintain a stable production environment and that doesn’t included updates on anyone’s schedule except my own.

I agree that a development environment needs to be stable, even off the net. But by the time we get the product, routine MS updates should not break them.
