Content-Aware Fill Error: Initialization Failed

November 30, 2022 at 2:34 pmI’m trying to do some small content aware fill on a video clip.
My steps:
- Import .MXF file into AE
- Drop the file into a comp with the same settings
- Draw a mask around the area to be filled
- Set the mask to subtract
- Click on ‘Generate Fill Layer’
I see the error: “Content-Aware Fill Error: Initialization Failed”.
I’ve tried making a new project, restarting AE, and tried a completely different .mp4 file instead, but I still get the same error.
I’m using: MacBook Pro M1 Max 2021., MacOS 12.6, After Effects 2023 v23.0.0
Many thanks
PS – I’ve tried erasing all preferences. Same error:
UPDATE:
I’ve fixed it. For some reason, having the media and the project file on an external SSD drive seems to have been the problem. Copying both files to my local drive has resolved it. Weird bug.

December 9, 2022 at 6:26 amI spoke too soon. Trying to do another one, and the “move it locally” trick isn’t working. If anyone else has resolve this, please let me know.
