Consumer DVD Recorder
Anybody using/recommend a consumer DVD Recorder like the Panasonic DMR-ES10K to make DVD’s?
I had to make a dvd for my client from FCP and no matter which way I tried using DVD Studio Pro, there was one section that always came out jittery…(I used Compressor I tried Squeeze I tried iDVD…) the footage was Beta SP and had a band playing to a white back drop…the footage might also have been slowed down a bit…so this could have been my problem…but
Do these consumer decks make DVD’s any better?! Silly question I know but I thought I’d ask…it might also be a quicker way of making a DVD…
Thanks for any ideas…

The panasonic brand Recorders are to this day still the best
ones out there for picture quality and reliability.They are perfect suited for quick & easy low cost DVD production.
That jittery footage would probably look that way on tape
as well (being slowed down) -
The thing I still hate about the set top units is the crappy menus that they produce and most of them don’t allow you to change much. If only they would allow you to make a simple pop-n-play DVD with no menu at all.

Funny you should say that — I just read a post where someone was asking if there was such a unit — that will record, and then just play without any menus. You mean there isn’t such a unit anywhere?

I believe Pioneer makes one, but it’s more of a professional deck than a consumer deck….from what I remember the price tag is pretty big also!

We have a Toshiba RD-XS34SU. It has an option to record with no menus. You can put chapter markers on the fly and before you finalize you can tell it to loop the program. It also has a 60G hard drive. It is perfect for quick client approval copies. The quality of the encodes are very good.

I have heard nice things about the Toshiba models as well.
One of my clients own a newer panasonic recorder and
he recently made a disc with no menu. He said the
option was kind of hard to find in the menu.Not sure which model though.
