I’ve come across several situations where I have wanted to animate something revealing in the same fashion as a growing segment of a solid filled circle, so that, for example, the angle at the point of the segment enlarges from 10 degrees to 90 degrees. I would use this as a mask to reveal something else, most commonly a segment of a 2D ring shape.

In the past I’ve done this by animating a mask but it’s hard to get this to animate smoothly in a curved line over anything more than a short angle.

I was wondering if there is a plugin or AE effect that I can use to achieve this through expressions (say with settings for radius and start and end angle), behaving a bit like the radio waves effect or something, but obviously producing a different result. I imagine I could use this for all kinds of stuff.

I’m not sure I’ve explained this very well but I’d be interested to hear how others approach this.
