Constant error driving me crazy
Posted by Lori Miranda on November 26, 2009 at 1:00 pmI am working on Avid Xpress Pro on a PC. This is the first time I am working on this particular computer. Every time I open up a sequence with up to 10 video tracks, try to move my cursor in that sequence or try to play it I get an error that says:
An error has occurred:
Assertion failed: readSize>0
File:\coresw\core\filesys\diskrtnsWin.c, Line 537I get this every time I try to do anything in a sequence with lots of tracks. I have restarted the computer, restarted the mojo, defragmented the computer. I have no idea what this error is or what to do. Please help as this is driving me nuts and I am under a tight deadline.
Thanks so much,

November 26, 2009 at 1:29 pmMake sure you have the proper QT for your system, and the computer OS is correct. Check the readme for that information.

December 1, 2009 at 12:39 amYou also want to check your graphics card and driver.
What version of XPro are you running?

December 7, 2009 at 5:26 pmMy company actually just stripped my computer and upgraded my system to Media Composer 4.0.2 but I am still getting the error- now just with a different line #.
I am running on Windows XP and my Quicktime is version 7.6.2- but it’s not Quicktime Pro, just player. Could this be the problem?
Thanks,

December 7, 2009 at 5:34 pm4.0.2 is supported for QT 7.6.2 so that is not your problem.
Please post your graphics card/ driver information and also what you are using for storage.
Do you get this on all or just this one project? Have you tried creating an new Avid user?

December 7, 2009 at 8:17 pmI seem to get it only when I am dealing with this particular shows graphic elements…it doesn’t matter what project I am in, if I need the graphics, I get the error.
I thought it might be bad media (since the media has been moved from another system) so I tried to reimport the original files in order to re-build the show’s templates. Still, I get the same error trying to import the original files from the source disk.
My graphics card info is:
NVIDIA Quadro 980 XGL
DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
Approx. Total Memory: 128.0 MBMain Driver info:
nv4_disp.dll
Version: 6.14.0010.8426As far as storage, I am not sure what you mean. If you mean all of my media it is going to an internal hard drive. There is also an external firewire drive that I back up to.
Please let me know if you need anymore info. I REALLY appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks,

December 7, 2009 at 8:25 pmThe graphics card itself is not supported with MC 3 or 4. There may be some element of the graphics that it just cannot handle.

December 7, 2009 at 9:03 pmSo what do you suggest as my options- get a new card? There are many graphics that I will be working with (and these graphics have been used on other MCs with no problem). What are my options?

December 7, 2009 at 9:14 pmAvid has some strict requirements for graphics cards with MC 3+. They are all in the nVidia Quadro FX line of cards.
With that said I am not 100% certain if this is your issue. If you have another machine that is using these same graphics and you are running the same graphics card/driver combination then you probably have a different issue.
If it is working on other machines I would verify if the specs of those machines match this one.
One thing you could possible try is rebuilding the database files for your media.
If you know where your media is located on your internal navigate to the folder (OMFI MediaFile or Avid MediaFiles)and delete the two files named msmMMOB.mdb and msmFMID.pmr.
When you relaunch Avid the media folder will be scanned and it will rebuild the files and/or find corrupt media files. If it finds corrupt media files you may need to recapture or reimport the materials that are corrupt.

December 7, 2009 at 9:19 pmThanks Matthew. I have rebuilt the databases a couple of times but I could try it again. Hopefully I will figure something out soon- this is very frustrating. Nevertheless, I really appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Lori
