Apologies for the broad question but we’ve just moved onto P2 and we’re trying to get our heads round the storage!

We’re running 3 Avids (2 older versions 2.6.6 and 2.8.1 and AMC 5) through an Editshare system, all PC based.

When we’ve finished cutting a project we want to consolidate the project itself and all of the bins so we can recover all footage for future use on the same or different projects.

We were initially advised that we’d be able to Consolidate all our projects/footage onto a Quantum tape storage device however now, having bought one, it transpires that you have to move all your files into a new Media Space on the Edit share and then use some third party software to “backup” files onto the Quantum system – this is not the same as consolidating them, obviously!

    Is there a better way?!

Use a Cache-A device. It is network attachable/controllable. No separate software needed.

    LTO4 or LTO5.
