  • Consolidate Question – 2 versions?

Posted by Todd Sali on June 14, 2005 at 11:02 pm

    Hey everyone,

I know FCP has less than spectacular Consolidate cabilities (media management) but is there a way to do this?:

We have a 1 hour show and are about to Online and color correct 2 versions – one 54 minute for TV and one hour long for festivals.
Is there a way to do ONE online such that both sequences can relink to the same files. And better yet, conform one to the other so that we are Color Correcting only once for most of the Film.
Or do we really have to media manage our timelne and online BOTH cuts as if they were seperate films, and online and color correct 2x?

    Thanks,
    Todd

So you’re not going to edit and color correct the 60 min version, then cut it down to a 54 (I think you mean 44) minute version? That would seem the logical approach. Are you saying you’ve already offlined the 60 and the 54 and NOW you want to color correct and online? If you did it the former, then of course everything links up to the same footage.

Possibly if you select both seqeunces and do a batch they would link to the same media. But I don’t know how you’d ever color correct one sequence and expect it to jump to another. The color correction info is in the sequence. Not the media.

of course that would be great. But i’m just doing the online and color correct. offline is locked and the project just came in my door.

i hear you. i’m more interested in the online solution actually since i guess i could copy and paste all my color corrects. but i’d rather not redig the entire film 2x?

Well yeah, then just highlight the 2 sequences (or put them in the same sequence) and then do a media manage to cut out the unused footage and create the handles, etc. etc. Just like you usually do on an online session.
