  • Consolidate ALL media in a project – not just media on timeline

Posted by Dustin Parsons on December 22, 2008 at 6:55 pm

I have a couple FCP projects that are referencing media files scattered all over communal hard drive being used for footage archiving. Editing is not finished on these projects and I will not be able to use the archive drive soon so I need to consolidate ALL the media for these project, not just what I have on the timeline so far.

I know this is a horribly setup workflow but I got on this project late and now just have to deal.

As far as I can tell, FCP does not have this as an option when using the Media Manager. Any ideas on how to go about backing up an entire project when the media is scattered all over? The only thing I can think is to make a new sequence and drag all media to the timeline before using the Media Manager… it’s definitely not my ideal method for this so I’m welcome to any and all suggestions.

    Thanks

What is wrong with selecting all the media in the BROWSER and then selecting the Media Manager?

Don’t have anything in your FCP Browser, but have the Browser selected as the active window, then go File->Media Manager and you’ll MM the entire project as opposed to just a specific timeline. De-select the “delete unused media…” option and you should be good to go. If you have the drive space I’d definitely perform a “copy” instead of a “move” so that if something hangs up during the MM you won’t lose any data.

Or what Andrew said. His solution sounds a LOT better than mine.

    Nothing… nothing at all.

Damn I feel stupid for getting caught up on such a simple issue.

As always, thanks for your help.
