Thanks Forum Directors and Readers in Advance,

Our Team is considering an aerial shoot using the Sony HDW-F900. We Have an AVID Media Composer and an AVID Mojo with HD Xpress. I’ve never done HD before, but We also have AE and Premiere Pro CS3. With these tools can we import footage and downcovert properly to a SD format?

    thanks

You’ll need a playback deck like a JH3 and you’ll be good to go, hoping that you have all of the usual tools for importing broadcast footage.

Keep in mind that if you are ingesting and editing with the Avid’s, you can only ingest the content in SD from the downconverted signal coming out of the JH-3. So it will be an SD workflow, not an HD workflow that you would then downconvert at the end. To ingest HD into an AVID from HDCAM tape you need at least an Media Composer Adrenaline with the DNxcel HD board, which will let you work with the compressed DNxHD codec. Or you need an Avid Symphony Nitris or DS system to ingest the HD in uncompressed.

On the other side if you are using Premier Pro for ingesting and editing, then you simply need the appropriate AJA or Blackmagic card and fast enough storage to work with HD.

    best regards,

    Thanks Jeremy,

We do have Media Composer Adrenaline, but not sure if we have the card in which you speak (I’m not using that machine), but thanks for the info as I am sure we will be moving in that direction soon. For now we are just looking to take that footing and ingesting an SD signal. NO need to edit or output HD for now…
