    Hello Everyone,

I’m trying to transition BETWEEN connected clips…but the transition works between the main timeline clip and the connected clip when the transition is applied to the connected clip. Specifically, if I have twp PIPs and apply a flip transition, it flips from the main timeline to the PIP. I want the PIPs to flip from one to the other over the top of the main clip. I have 10.0.1. Hope this makes sense and that I’m haven’t missed something or didn’t search enough….

    Thanks,

    Ed

Are the two connected clips next to each other?
I can drag and drop or right click and select Add Dissolve and the two connected clips get a transition between them and become a secondary storyline.
Make sure the connected clips actually abut each other without any empty space between them.

    Craig,

This doesn’t work for me. The connected clips are indeed abutting. When I try to apply the transition, it either applies itself to the end of the first connected clip or the start of the next connected clip. It will not span the two clips ( as in “centered on cut” in FCP 7!). …and if I may go further, let’s say I wanted to have a connected clip (as a PIP) twist in over the top of a main timeline clip without another clip in front of it. I can’t get this to work either. I tried it with other effects such as lighting transitions such as the”lens flare” or “light noise”..won’t work. Hope I’m just missing something…thanks for your help.

The behavior you describe is when there’s space between the clips. Please check them. Every transition I’ve tried works (and I’ve tried several) but if there’s a space between them I get your behavior.
