I’m working with 1920x1080p HD footage and will be authoring a DVD in Encore. I need to create the Menu Screens in Photoshop from scratch using my own photographs. I’m going to transcode the video to be wide format on the DVD.

I need to know what Image Dimensions within Photoshop should I use to create the DVD Menus so that they will work in Encore. I’m using Photoshop CS5

I tried using the “Film & Video” preset in Photoshop which gives an image of 720×480 and 72ppi … and the photo looks like crap.. very pixelated around the edges. Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks for input…

Use a menu from the Encore library, then “edit in Photoshop” and change anything you want to change. Yes it will be 720×480.

PPI is irrelevant in video. Pixel dimensions and pixel aspect ratio are the relevant variables.

Thanks Stan for the reply… So any photo I use will be “stretched” to widescreen… correct? I assume there is no way to minimize this (ie “prep”/edit the image) prior to use in wide format)?
