  conforming text problem

  Hello, I have a composition, which is white image with some sort of a painted frame. I just want to place a piece of text. When I conform using the paragarph tools, I get big spaces between words or a dash etc. If I adapt sides only gets a bit better. Is there a way to show a conform text in the same way you can do it in Pages or Word? no dashes etc., maybe another program? it seems like a very simple thing. I tried illustrator and it seems to be the same
