Hello- I imported an old reel from FCP for practice with Resolve 8. When I checked the Conform EDL window on the Conform Page I noticed in the # column that for one of the clips in the timeline there were two entries in the event number column. One was as expected, numerical, but the second one (below it) was “M2.” Checking back to the original clip, it was not the same aspect ratio (720) as the project (1080).

All the other fields were blank for the M2 entry except for the Reel, Blank and SRC In.

Any idea what the M2 stands for?

I think M2 is a motion event or speed change?
On the old version of Resolve we had to remove those to create a clean edit!

Doh! It’s both. Resized 150% and speed is 1500%. Thanks for the quick reply, Daniel. That’s not in the manual, is there another place that would have these useful nuggets?

So the speed change is supported but I’m confused about the resizing. According to the manual (p.134), motion settings are not compatible, the everything looks just fine in the timeline. Or am I mis-interpreting what DaVinci is calling a motion setting?

Just had a look at the manual, it seems that, if you are seeing the speed change then its a linear speed effect. Not sure what would constitute a motion effect (maybe someone could chime in on that one).
I think the M2 is classed as a “motion” effect in FCP but not necessarily seen that way by Da Vinci.

I have always had to manually resize as any size changes have not been recognised (V7 and before). I just wipe to the offline for framing reference and do it myself.

“THAT’S NOT IN THE MANUAL, IS THERE ANOTHER PLACE THAT WOULD HAVE THESE USEFUL NUGGETS?”

Not that I know of, other than here on this blog, has been trial and error for me and using the cheap/free jobs to establish workflows for paying clients!

Oh, you could try Vimeo. I know Warren Eagles posts some free tips and tricks for Resolve videos via the ICA.
