Sorry Boris, but I think this is operator error,
Open FCP, close all projects, choose your Easy Setup choice, create a new project and all of the setting will reset as they are supposed to.
if you do this with ANY project files open, yes the existing setup is retained in the memory.

The problem is, when you then go back to do additional editing on another project that has different settings, different media drives, etc., FCP doesn’t remember any of that.

Problem is Apple can’t even spell colour correctly!
Just doin some cowpokin…pokin a little fun in view of all the rukus Apple’s new “Color” caused in the UK over spelling, fact is us Canuks also spell it with a “U” being colonists and all.

Oh, you’re asking if FCP has Project Level retention of information vs. Global Level retention of information. Not really sure if that has been enabled in FCP 6, though it is certainly needed.

I do this all the time in demos, were I bounce between multiple types of projects ad nauseam
No it is not as smart as the avids are in that manner, but as long as there is nothing open (video, projects, or clips ) to make fcp think it is doing something, it does work.
the trick is to close everything, setup what you are trying and then open the file.

I am also a poor speller. I type in Text Edit and let it spell check for me. Then I copy and paste into Title 3D. Of course you still have to check for contextual errors.

If you’d like to manually set your settings in the “old” way, you can disable the auto conform feature in v6. I’m not 100% sure if auto conform will change your video output settings though, we didn’t get a change to see that at NAB.
Another cool feature not mentioned is the ability for FCP to play out HDV footage via SD firewire devices. The output will be a downconverted image though. This was only mentioned but was not demoed.

That hasn’t changed in v6. Capture Scratch etc are still saved at the system level rather than project level.
