I just bought a XF400 Canon video recorder for occasional use and I am overwhelmed with the settings. Does not help I don’t take pictures ever in manual mode. Tonight I am going to archive a rock concert indoors and wondering what Iris, Shutter and Gain controls you may start with in this somewhat dark room. Newbie question if you ever heard one right? ☺ I know I could just set this to all auto but I want to learn.

Big time thanks in advance and happy holidays!

Set color balance to 3200 on manual white balance. If the stage lighting changes (and it does), auto white balance will try to keep correcting the colors back to “normal” and you don’t want that. Same with the iris. Put the iris on manual and turn on the Zebra Bars in your display, expose so the zebra bars barely register. Leave shutter off. Leave Gain off unless you just can’t see anything.
