Fairly confident in my thoughts on this but want to check this with other compositors here just to be safe.

Getting started with a project where I’ll be comping background images into green screen footage shot at 2K. I asked the artist to supply me with background images at 4K so that I can resize as needed for close-ups and other manipulations that may be needed. Final comps will be done in 2K.

The suggestion has been made for the artist to deliver 2K background images at 600 dpi so that they may be used and enlarged as needed. From my knowledge, dpi means nothing in AE and therefore will not affect how much an image can be enlarged without losing quality. But if a 600 dpi image is imported (not a project file, a finished image) into Photoshop, for example, can it be enlarged to 4K without quality loss and be good for what I’m doing?

Even then I figured the easiest path was just getting the artist to deliver to me a 4K image from the start.
