    Hey All,

Im trying to emulate the look of the ‘concave video wall’ from the Apple TV startup movie (linked here) specifically the section at about 0:02-0:03. I know how to do the zooming of the individual elements, but the actual bending of the wall in 3D space (I’m actually trying to create it with one large image rather than lots of smaller images) is perplexing me!!! I’ve tried Bezier handles, displacement maps and the like but they only give me 2D approximations of the effect.

Any idea how to actually bend a shape to concave in after effects? Is this even possible?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

You could try to use CC Cylinder. The Zax plug is good, but I’ve found it to be a render hog.

In your case, you might want to use Digital Anarchy’s 3D Assistants to group the screens into a concave shape.

Yeah, you’d probably want to use our 3D Assistants for that effect, specifically Cylinder Creator in order to create a video wall with that many layers.

Unless you want to position them all by hand, which I highly do Not recommend. 🙂

    card dance would probably work….

it will divide your layer into a grid. you can use a reflective gradient for a smooth z positioning of the ‘cards’ and another linear gradient for y smooth rotation of the ‘cards.’ and you can use a comp camera to fly around it.

i’m sure it can also be done with many layers and an expression for position and rotation.
